About the Artist

I am a lifelong Texan, currently living in my adopted hometown of Rockwall, Texas. Because of my former occupation and studies, I have travelled and lived in several States in the USA, and several countries, but Texas is my home and where my heart has always been.

I have been creating art since I was old enough to hold a crayon and began sculpting in my mom’s kitchen in Higgins, TX with homemade clay made of flour, salt and water.

One of the first notable sculptures I ever created was a bust of my High School girlfriend, who became my bride of 45 years.

I was inspired by and learned about sculpting in clay for bronze casting, from the well-known Christian, cowboy artist Kenneth Wyatt of Tulia, TX, as well as many other contemporary artists in and around the panhandle and South Plains of Texas. I became a full-time artist after retirement from a 39-year long career in law enforcement.

My sculptures are usually Southwest themed, Biblical, and historical figures, and an occasional portrait. I work in clay, usually later cast in bronze. I have experimented with other casting materials but fall back to bronze as often as possible.

The best and most honest critics of my work were and still are my two sons who always told me what they thought of my work. More specifically, when I do portraits, by asking the hard-biting question, “Who’s that?” until I fixed it.

In 2004, President of the Rockwall Art League, told me about a contest for a memorial statue of the three founders of the actual “rock wall” for which Rockwall City and County was named. Later that year, my design was chosen and after a 19-year effort of some dedicated volunteers and citizen donations, the City of Rockwall completed the funding for the project to create a larger than life-size bronze memorial of my original, which was completed May of 2023.

I have been honored to be friends with many exceptional artists, in and because of the Rockwall Art League. The support and encouragement of other artists has made me so appreciative of the talent God blessed me with, to bring joy to others.

My greatest inspiration has been God’s words in 1 Corinthians 10:31
31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
